Garnacha is a red grape that is one of Spain’s principal varieties used in red and rose wines. Garnacha is also known as Grenache in France and is most famously used in Chateauneuf du Pape. In Spain, however, it is often blended with Tempranillo to make Rioja or alone to produce Priorat wines. Garnacha is widely cultivated along the coast of the Mediterranean, South Australia and California. Garnacha tends to ripen late in the season. Garnacha will give notes of raspberry as well as provide fruit forward aroma and good body.
