Product Description

Overview

Winery: Jonive

Jonive Estate Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.

This wine has a brilliant Burgundy color with a deep brooding nose that explodes out of the glass with aromas of orange peel, shiitake mushrooms, soy sauce, dried leaves, bay laurel and fall berries. The wine is a great balance between red and black fruit notes that saturate the palate with black tea, autumnal leaves, wood spice, dried citrus peel, and fennel. It is bright and fresh as well as deep and broad. This Pinot Noir is medium bodied combining silkiness with a nice grip of tannin, all with restrained alcohol that gives way to an amazingly complex and long finish that brings you back for another sip, another glass, and another bottle.

Review:

Ripe and succulent, showing a delicious set of raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors dotted with dried anise, black tea and singed wood spice notes. This is rich yet defined and toasty yet fresh.

Jonive is owned and operated by the Underwood Family, five generations in the spirit & wine business since 1888.

Jonive takes its name from the original 1845 California land grant titled “Rancho Cañada de Jonive”, from which our organically-farmed Moon Dust Vineyard was established.

Our 15-acre vineyard, Moon Dust Vineyard, produces truly distinctive pinot noir and chardonnay. Our organically farmed vineyard is located in the Sebastopol Hills section of the Russian River Valley, the coolest part, and is endowed with notorious soil known as Goldridge, the finest soil for growing pinot noir and chardonnay.  Goldridge soil is commonly referred to as Moon Dust.

In the 1840’s, Historic General Mariano Vallejo gifted land grants to arriving settlers willing to work and live off their land. Jasper O’Farrell, a pioneering California land surveyor identified the terroir of “Rancho Cañada de Jonive”, as a unique and fruitful opportunity due to its fertile watersheds and moderate temperatures with plentiful rainfall yet wonderful natural drainage. Many years later, seeing the great potential for the site. The Underwood family purchased the 15-acre property in 2021 with the vision of producing world class pinot noir and chardonnay from our mature vines.
