The climate is much warmer than other parts of the country and enjoys a lower rainfall average. The Mediterranean climate gives the region less frost that can damage the vines. Although the sub-region of Maconnais overlaps the part of the region of Beaujolais, it is also a part of the Burgundy wine region.
