The well-drained terrain is hilly with the majority of vineyards located at 330 Feet above sea level. The Cape Fold Mountain range shelters the valleys. The first wine vineyards were planted by German settlers, known as Huguenot, in 1690.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe climate in Stellenbosch is Mediterranean and perfect for viticulture. The winters are rainy, cool, and occasionally windy with daytime temperatures averaging about 61°. Occasionally snow flurries occur two or three times a year. Autumn and spring are considered shoulder seasons with average temperatures at the 68° mark. Total production was just one barrel yielding 580 bottles. All grapes used in producing this wine were grown on Keermont Vineyards. It is worth the wait, for eventually you are rewarded with blackberry, iodine, mint and fresh prune that is exotic and yet very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, tight-wound tannins. There is a touch of spice infusing the dark plum fruit, the used oak remaining well behaved in the background and allowing the fruit to express itself. The 2011 Keermont is a blend of 49% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 6% Syrah matured for 24 months in French barrels of which 20% is new. It offers lovely brambly black fruit on the nose with touches of black currant pastilles emerging with time. The oak is very well-integrated and complements rather than dominates the fruit and with time, there is just a suggestion of cocoa emerging. The palate is succulent on the entry with lavish spicy black fruit. It is very harmonious and suave with a caressing, voluminous finish that lingers long in the mouth, with white pepper and fennel notes lending complexity. Lovely!
