Product Description

Overview

Winery: Orin Swift

Orin Swift Mannequin Chardonnay is made from Chardonnay.

Mannequin is Orin Swift’s California Chardonnay — barrel-fermented and aged in French oak for a rich, full-bodied white with layers of roasted cashew, grilled peach, tropical fruit, and vanilla. Bold and lush, it brings Dave Phinney’s signature intensity and unmistakable label art to a white wine.

Winery Info: Orin Swift Cellars was founded by Dave Phinney in St. Helena, Napa Valley, in 1998. Built on boldly sourced fruit from across California and instantly recognizable, provocative label art, Orin Swift has become one of the most talked-about names in modern American wine.

Review:

Even with an appreciable volume (11,300 cases), all of the 2021 Chardonnay Mannequin was barrel fermented and matured, spending eight months in 23% new French oak. Blended primarily from Santa Barbara and Sonoma sources (there is some Napa fruit, as well as 2.6% Viognier), it’s toasty on the nose, boasting notes of roasted cashew, grilled peaches and vanilla. It’s full-bodied, lush and easy to drink, with tropical fruit and pineapple on the finish. Enjoy it on the young side.

The history of Orin Swift Cellars dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an offer and went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester “studying”. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and got hooked. A few more years of university led to graduation and eventually a job at Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997 as a temporary harvest worker. Deciding that if he was going to work this hard, it would eventually have to be for himself, he founded Orin Swift Cellars in 1998; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and grew the brand to what it is today.
