Product Description

Overview

Winery: Stonestreet

Stonestreet Estate Vineyards Rockfall Cabernet Sauvignon is made from Caberent Sauvignon.

Rockfall Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon red wine is one of our most dramatic vineyard locations, situated above the fog-line at 2,200 feet elevation. Mountaintop sun exposure imparts textural depth and richness to the wines, and a uniquely complex formation of bedrock under the vineyard contributes to the wine’s distinctive minerality. Planted vertically up the steep slope with a 30% grade and positioned to face south, we refer to this block as the ‘solar panel’ for the abundant sunshine it receives. This red wine exhibits aromas of dark fruit and chocolate, with hints of mulling spices and peppercorn. The savory palate has hints of blueberry and tobacco, balanced by a structured tannin profile. This Red Wine has a Cork closure. Alcohol Content: 14.5% Pair with grilled dry aged ribeye with mushrooms, lamb, and braised beef short ribs Stonestreet Estate Vineyards stand on the western ridge of the Mayacamas Mountains towering over the Alexander Valley below. High elevations, volcanically derived soils and cooling maritime breezes provide a unique location to pursue the challenge of mountain winegrowing. Of the 5,100 acres that make up the Estate, only 900 are planted to grapes in 235 individual vineyard blocks. The remaining land retains its natural biodiversity and abounds with streambeds and ancient oaks, providing a habitat for cougars, owls, and black bears.

Review:

Another gem that’s going to flirt with perfection in a decade is the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockfall Vineyard. Based on 100% Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 65% new French oak, its deep purple color is followed by a mammoth-sized bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, scorched earth, and graphite. Showing more spice and tobacco with time in the glass, it has incredible purity of fruit, building tannins, and flawless balance, all making for a majestic Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon that will keep for 30 years or more.

tonestreet Estate Vineyards is the story of a family’s vision to defy the limits of California winegrowing. Jess Stonestreet Jackson and Barbara Banke established the estate in 1995, and their son Christopher Jackson and his wife Ariel continue the legacy — and the middle name “Stonestreet” has now been passed from father to son for three generations. Stonestreet is one of the most expansive and multi-faceted mountain vineyards in the world and produces a distinctive collection of single vineyard wines — powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, soulful Chardonnay and electric Sauvignon Blanc. The Jackson family acts as stewards of the land, caring for this 5,500 acre mountain estate that towers high above the Alexander Valley in the Mayacamas Mountain Range. Ranging 400ft to 2,400ft in elevation, the estate showcases a dramatic array of mesoclimates on peaks, valleys and ledges. The geological diversity of the mountain, which contains more soil types than all of France, confers a strong mineral characteristic in the fruit, while the challenges of farming at elevation produce smaller, more concentrated berry clusters. Knowing that it would take more than one generation to understand the complexity of the estate, Jess Jackson notably stated, “Stonestreet has the destiny to be one of the greatest vineyard sites of all time.” As the second generation, Christopher and Ariel are building upon that legacy, pushing it forward with an ever-deepening understanding of this awe-inspiring estate.
